Spectator sports and the arts

Most Swedes define “spectator sports” in more or less the same way: “Competition that you watch for entertainment.” But when you start talking about “the arts” you enter the world of “culture” and suddenly it’s harder to reach a simple definition. For some people, art can only be found in museums and galleries. For others, popular culture like TV and rock & roll are also “art”.

As far as I’m concerned, anything that you like to do—and admire when other people do it well—is both art and culture.

If you’re interested in the “Fine Arts”—painting and sculpture—check out the section about Stockholm’s museums. If, on the other hand, you want to know more about popular literature, sporting events and the performing arts—such as movies, television and the theater—this is the section for you.
